Loc Techniques Skills Course

Day 1:

Session 1: Introduction to Locs

Brief history and cultural significance of locs

The types of locs we will cover traditional, micro locs, extensions, crochet locs

Understanding hair textures and curl types

Session 2: Micro Locs/Crochet Locs, Interlocking Techniques

Understanding micro locs and Sisterlocks differences

Micro locs application methods discussion/practice; interlocking, braiding, 2 strand twists.

Proper tools for micro locs interlocking

Hands-on-practice, interlocking, braiding, two strand twists.

Session 3: Lunch Break

Session 4: Loc Extensions

Introduction to loc extensions: why and when they're used.

Types of hair for extensions: human hair vs. synthetic

Hands-on practice: applying loc extensions on mannequin and on your own locs (if interested)

Session 5: Crochet Locs

When to consider this method of locing hair

Hands-on-practice: applying loc extension using different techniques

***Workbook written homework and practicing the 3 loc techniques learned***

Day 2: 1 week later

Session 6: Reviewing homework/at home practice of the 3 Locing Techniques

I will examine the locs created by the students 

Point out issues and have students reapply techniques for further practice.

Answer questions and discuss common problems and solutions. Frizzes, loss hairs, etc. 

Go over answers from chapters reading.

Session 7: Getting Started with Clients

The Consultation

Scheduling, scheduling apps, etc.

Creating a maintenance schedule based on the client’s hair type

Supplies, chair, wash basin, cart, mirrors, etc.

Extras to consider, washing the client’s hair, styling, accessories…

Session 8: Lunch Break

Session 9: The Business side of things

Business name

Session 10: Final Q&A and Graduation

Open forum for participants to ask remaining questions
